I have a confession to make....I took a personality test the other day!!! :-) Yes, in a flight of whimsy, I followed links from a blog I was reading and found myself at http://www.humanmetrics.com/index.htm#intro pressing the Let's Do It button. EEKKSS! Though I find such tests fun and have taken them before, I usually don't place much stake in them. I am more of the "look inside" to "know thyself" type! What surprised me this time, though was how "bang on" a couple of the observations about "my type" were. Obsessed with archetypes and symbolism, I have often felt a primal connection to the "Ugly Duckling" story. I have often spoken of this to my dear husband who, bless his heart, just smiles and nods!! Well, I don't think the people at Keirsey.com have a direct line to my heart or my house bugged (!), but they sure have quite a bit to say about ugly ducklings! Neat! Anyway, for your entertainment, this about "me" from Keirsey.com:
Healer Idealists
are abstract in thought and speech, cooperative in striving for their ends,
and investigative and attentive in their interpersonal relations. Healer
present a seemingly tranquil, and noticiably pleasant face to the world,
and though to all appearances they might seem reserved, and even shy, on
the inside they are anything but reserved, having a capacity for caring
not always found in other types. They care deeply-indeed, passionately-about
a few special persons or a favorite cause, and their fervent aim is to
bring peace and integrity to their loved ones and the world.
Healers have a profound sense of idealism derived from a strong personal
morality, and they conceive of the world as an ethical, honorable place.
Indeed, to understand Healers, we must understand their idealism as almost
boundless and selfless, inspiring them to make extraordinary sacrifices
for someone or something they believe in. The Healer is the Prince or Princess
of fairytale, the King's Champion or Defender of the Faith, like Sir Galahad
or Joan of Arc. Healers are found in only 1 percent of the general population,
although, at times, their idealism leaves them feeling even more isolated
from the rest of humanity.
Healers seek unity in their lives, unity of body and mind, emotions
and intellect, perhaps because they are likely to have a sense of inner
division threaded through their lives, which comes from their often unhappy
childhood. Healers live a fantasy-filled childhood, which, unfortunately,
is discouraged or even punished by many parents. In a practical-minded
family, required by their parents to be sociable and industrious in concrete
ways, and also given down-to-earth siblings who conform to these parental
expectations, Healers come to see themselves as ugly ducklings. Other types
usually shrug off parental expectations that do not fit them, but not the
Healers. Wishing to please their parents and siblings, but not knowing
quite how to do it, they try to hide their differences, believing they
are bad to be so fanciful, so unlike their more solid brothers and sisters.
They wonder, some of them for the rest of their lives, whether they are
OK. They are quite OK, just different from the rest of their family-swans
reared in a family of ducks. Even so, to realize and really believe this
is not easy for them. Deeply committed to the positive and the good, yet
taught to believe there is evil in them, Healers can come to develop a
certain fascination with the problem of good and evil, sacred and profane.....
So there you have it.... :-)
Namaste.

Last night I was INFP and tonight (after a trip to a mall) I was INFJ. I find that part fascinating. I think I dovetail more with the first results than the second, though they don't vary that greatly. The career choices for the INFP make the most sense to me - writer, counsellor, etc. Thanks for posting this. I had fun with it.
One thing I feel can be important to remember is that there are different ways of understanding identity and the self. Personally I find it healthy to be sceptic to the essentialistic perspective, in other words that personality and identity would be something pretty much written in stone, some unchangeable psychological or biological trait of the human being. One could also question if we really are the same person in every occasion. Rather you could choose to see personality as created, by you or through you, which lends us more freedom to actively be the person we want to be. Just because you feel like it to be an INFJ today does not stop you from becoming and ENTP tomorrow if you care to. In this particular case I have as you can see chosen to adapt more of a Thinking position than a Feeling, but tomorrow could be different and one position is not more right than the other is a way to see it.
Just some thoughts
So happy you've had fun with this little diversion!!
I am so glad to know all of you very unique and interesting people!
Namaste.

Jonas, i totally agree. No one in my office believes I am an INTROVERT. I can “act” like an extrovert when I have to (meeting new people, and at trade shows or speaking engagements), but afterwards I need SERIOUS chill time. I think the drama major in me can take over when she needs to.
